Bristol Shotgun Range

Bristol is a public range open year round on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. A membership is available, but not required to shoot on the range. We offer a climate controlled clubhouse with restrooms, for you to relax between rounds.

The shotgun range consists of 4 trap fields, 1 skeet field and 1 enclosed,
heated 5-Stand building with a viewing room. Whether you are a new or a seasoned shooter, Bristol is a welcoming place to shoot clay targets. Range Safety Officers are there to help guide new shooters to the range. Large or special event groups are welcome, please call ahead to discuss.

Shotgun-Shot Curtain

Trap Fields

Bristol has 4 trap fields in which trap can be shot from 16-27 yards. We also offer trap doubles and wobbles. A shot curtain has recently been installed that provides a uniform background to enhance the clay shooting experience. We utilize both wireless microphones and pullers for trap shooting.

5-Stand

5-Stand shooting is similar to sporting clays without the walking. We have an enclosed heated building with viewing room for your enjoyment and comfort. The course has 8-10 traps to capture all different shots. The trap layout is changed regularly to maintain a new, challenging course.

We offer 25, 30, and 50 clay rounds. If you are new to the sport, a Range Safety Officer will guide you through the process.

Open Saturday and Sundays for general public.

We offer league shooting Wednesday nights year round. It is an individual score league, with multiple divisions for all levels of experience. For more information contact Bill.

Skeet Field

Please check in with the cashier for more information about skeet shooting. Currently it has limited availability~ for experienced shooters only.

Bristol Shotgun Range Safety Rules and Regulations

Please follow these rules to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all.

  1. If you observe any unsafe situation, report it immediately to a Range Safety Officer or staff member.
  2. Alcohol is prohibited on the shotgun range. Any Person(s) who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs are prohibited from shooting and will be asked to leave the range.
  3. Smoking only allowed in designated area.
  4. Observers are prohibited on shooting fields. Please remain on walkways and designated benches.
  5. All shooters must wear ear and eye protection while on the fields.
  6. Snapcaps are prohibited in all areas of the shotgun range.
  7. All shotguns must be carried with actions open:
    1. (Semi’s and pumps cannot be carried over shoulder with barrel facing backward) Barrel must be upward while carrying.
    2. (Break-away shotguns can be carried over shoulder with barrel facing forward)
    3. Minimum shotgun barrel length is 24″. Home defense guns are prohibited.
  8. Shotguns must remain unloaded until at the shooting station.
  9. Keep shotgun actions open until your turn to shoot. No chambering of shell until previous shooter has completed their turn.
  10. Keep finger off the trigger until ready to fire.
  11. Single load only except when shooting trap doubles, 5-stand or skeet.
  12. Target loads only: All game loads and shells containing steel shot or slugs are strictly prohibited.
    1. Only # 7½, #8, #9 shot (maximum 1300 fps) is permitted on trap and 5-stand fields
    2. Only #8 and #9 shot (maximum 1200 fps) is permitted on skeet field.
  13. Deposit all trash in containers. Pick up spent shells from field after each round of shooting.
  14. Please, no loud conversations, cheering, or heckling of shooters on the firing line for the respect and safety of all shooters.
  15. Please, no dogs or other pets allowed.

**Violators will be asked to leave the range immediately.

New to the Shotgun Range?

Welcome! Our goal is to ensure you to have a safe and enjoyable range experience.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Please bring your shotgun from your vehicle to the clubhouse uncased, and action open and always barrel pointing upwards or break opens with barrels open and forward. Once inside place your gun on one of the 3 racks located inside until it’s your turn to shoot.

THEN:

  1. Check In with the cashier at the counter to get started, this involves
    1. Signing a waiver on range rules
    2. Check shells – only 7-1/2, 8 or 9 shot allowed with 1300 or less fps allowed
    3. You will need ear & eye protection. You can also borrow or purchase from us
    4. Checking your shotgun to ensure its range appropriate – no barrels less than 24″
    5. Payment for 1 trap round, 25 clay targets
    6. Then Wait for cashier to call you out to your assigned trap field with an RSO
  2. Meet with Range Safety Officer (RSO)
    1. Review firearm experience
    2. Review range safety and etiquette
    3. The RSO will take you out on the field for 1 on 1 trap shooting
    4. Review fundamentals of safe trap shooting
    5. Help you with loading, unloading and safe handling of the firearm
    6. Help you with proper stance and technique for trap shooting
    7. Please remember non-shooters must stay off the field
  3. Once you have finished your round
    1. Clean up your hulls and empty boxes and dispose in the appropriate cans
    2. Discuss your trap shooting experience and next steps

Things that can help make the day more enjoyable:

  • Make sure you have appropriate clothing and footwear for days’ weather. You will be outside for 30 minutes – hour. You will need closed toed/closed heel shoes.
  • If you have a shooting vest or shell pouch bring it, if not you can borrow one at the range.

The Shotgun Range is looking for

Range Safety Officers (RSO )

The role is assisting new shooters and watching over the range, which is critical to keeping the range open and safe for everyone. If you enjoy being at the range and could volunteer, please consider being an RSO. If you are hesitant about your abilities, our current RSO’s would be happy to guide you through the process.

Qualifications:

  • 21 years of age
  • Pass basic safety knowledge exam
  • Shadow with Head Range Officer and other RSO’s
  • Volunteer for 8 RSO duty days per calendar year
